We visited Four Guys in Abuja after receiving several recommendations and went specifically for their Chinese menu during our short five-day stay in the city. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing.
We ordered Kung Pao Chicken and Mongolian Beef, but both dishes were completely inedible. The food was overwhelmingly and unpleasantly sweet, drenched in what tasted like nothing more than sugar, food colouring, and cornstarch. The Kung Pao Chicken did not resemble Kung Pao in any way, and the Mongolian Beef was deep-fried and then coated in the exact same overly sweet sauce. Neither dish reflected Chinese cuisine, and both plates had to be left untouched because they were simply impossible to eat.
The flavors were so distinctly different from what we expected that we even remarked that the food tasted Filipino - and to our surprise, when we asked to speak with the manager, he informed us that the chef is indeed Filipino. This explained the flavour profile, but it also highlighted how misleading the menu descriptions are for anyone expecting authentic Chinese food (or even anything remotely close to it).
Despite the poor food experience, the manager handled the situation exceptionally well. He listened carefully to our feedback, apologized sincerely, and offered us complimentary desserts. The tiramisu and chocolate brownie he provided were genuinely excellent and far better than the meal itself.
In summary:
• Chinese menu: Not authentic and inedible.
• Food quality: Overly sweet, incorrectly prepared, and inaccurately labeled.
• Service: Excellent; the manager was professional and accommodating.
• Desserts: Outstanding.
I would strongly advise against visiting Four Guys for Chinese cuisine, as the dishes are not representative of Chinese cooking and were unfortunately not edible. However, the service and desserts were commendable.
Atmosphere is lovely and we had an exceptional waitress called Benedicta. She was so helpful and eager to assist with everything. This is my best place for sushi. Been multiple times but didn't realise I never left a review. Service is always topnotch but I must say the food portion could be bigger especially for the prices. Other than that, I definitely recommend.
I guess I’m not a sushi lover. It’s not the sushi, it’s me. Honestly, I had an amazing night, the service was a solid 10/10. I loved everything else. Tried calamari for the first time, and I don’t hate it! Everything we got was gooood. I might go back and try sushi again, I'm on a mission.
Great cocktail. Tasty sushi and dumplings.
Very friendly staff too.
I found it kind that when I ordered a cocktail, the waiter was kind to caution me that it was alcoholic, based on how I was dressed, in an abaya. I love that he was looking out for what he thought was my faith. 💓
4Guys has long been my old faithful when it comes to sushi in Abuja. They have one of the most extensive sushi and sashimi menus I’ve seen in the city, and I keep coming back to them for that reason, even with all the newer, trendier spots popping up. Their sushi is consistently fresh, well-prepared, and delightful.
That said, their non-sushi menu items however have never really impressed me. Outside of the gyoza (which is solid) and the tiramisu (a nice sweet finish), most of the other dishes I’ve tried have been pretty mid. I’ve learned to just stick to the sushi, which never disappoints, though I was a little bummed when they were out of edamame on my last visit.
The ambiance is lovely, with cozy dim lighting, and the service is great. Major points for being the only place I’ve been to in Abuja that brings a chair for your purse (a small touch, but one I appreciate). No warm towel, though, which would have been the cherry on top.
Drinks-wise, the passionfruit daiquiri is goated, and I also enjoy their ginger shots. Overall, 4Guys remains a reliable sushi spot in Abuja for me, and I’m looking forward to discovering their new space when they move.
