The Dark Room by Yellow Plate is such a vibe! The dark-themed decor is beautifully done, creating a chill and private atmosphere that’s perfect for a date night. It’s cozy, intimate, and feels like a hidden gem in Abuja.
We ordered a starter while soaking in the amazing ambiance and decided to get takeout for the rest of our meal. I have to say, I’m in love with their branding and attention to detail—even down to how they pack their food. The takeout packaging was so sleek and thoughtful, and the portions were incredibly generous. Plus, the food quality was top-notch—every bite felt like it was made with care. Definitely great value for the price!
If you’re looking for a spot with a unique theme, a relaxing vibe, and exceptional food, The Dark Room is a must-visit. Perfect for date nights or when you just want to treat yourself to something special!
The first time I had a yellow plate dish (Abuja), I was impressed, it was awesome. Great taste, great food, great quantity. People get value for their money is why you’re patronized as an online restaurant. However, if you’re going to charge people a certain amount for food, then it’s paramount you deliver on your part. You can’t serve meals in different serving bowls all the time. Be consistent. If prices of ingredients or items go up, increase the price, rather than under-deliver on quantity or quality. I preferred the plastic container it came in the first time I had it, for context (the one with spoon and fork), it looked fancy, unique and I thought to myself, rare to find a Nigerian restaurant that would deliver your meal in that. Recently, y’all have changed to some smaller container and even sub-par, yet you kept the price same. Why pay more for less? Also, the meal was salty, different from the ones I’d had prior (other than that, tasted great) and the beef wasn’t tender. I hope y’all pay attention to feedback and not under-deliver because not everyone is going to come on here to leave a review, most importantly, detailing the aforementioned concerns. Please note that this hasn’t diminished my love for the restaurant’s awesome delicacies regardless, in hopes that feedback would be taken in anticipation of my next order — I had Ifite black rice. Cheers.
The dark room is literally a restaurant without lights. There are at least 3 different dinning areas to choose from. If you don’t want to be seen while eating out, this restaurant is for you.
You can hardly identify faces due to the poor lighting but their meals are absolutely delicious.
I enjoyed their cocktail as well.
Ps: There’s delivery service available for those who order online.
Finally, I visited the popular Darkroom by Yellowplate. I mean, I have ordered from Yellowplate a couple of times before but I have never really visited/dined at Darkroom (their physical space).
Before I got there, I had seen a couple of comments about the car parking being an issue but I didn’t really have any challenges parking. I would, however, advise that if you can, use a Taxi to the place. The staff were (for the most part) very polite and professional. I loved how everyone (staff) was particular enough to make sure we were having a great dining experience. The waiter (that served us) seemed new as she was a bit unsure about the menu and had to go back to the kitchen a number of times to get answers to our questions. When we were leaving, she asked “Anything for the weekend”; I mean I understand that tipping is very important but I think it’s unprofessional for a waiter to ask (especially in that manner).
Moving on, we ordered the Asun Jollof Rice (7000), Shrimps Alfredo Pasta (8500), and the Prawn Mayo (4500). The portions are RIDICULOUS (in a good way)! I NEVER takeaway food (leftovers) at a restaurant cause whatever is left is never enough to takeaway. I went to Darkroom hungry and I still couldn’t finish the food! I remained more than half of that Asun Jollof Rice. Asides from the quantity, the food is AWESOME! For the Asun Jollof, I loved the spice, taste and, yes, it was smoky! My friend didn’t love it though so maybe it’s just me 🤷🏾♂️. Personally, I hate creamy pasta and seafood BUT when I tasted that Shrimp Alfredo Pasta, I wanted to finish it! It was veryyy good - I can’t describe it. You need to taste it for yourself please 🤤
The Asun Jollof comes with Plantain, Asun (A LOT) and Coleslaw. The Alfredo Pasta had about four MASSIVE Prawns and was very very creamy 👀.
I recently visited Dark Room by Yellow plate after several months & I’m pleased with the improvements that have been made. I ordered the shredded chicken with cheese & fries. It didn’t take too long to arrive & service was good. One thing I noticed was how busy the pick-up section on the ground floor was. Majority of their customers order online for pick up or delivery. The food is good but the price is alarming, but it’s this way because of the quantity, you won’t be able to finish the food alone except you have a voracious appetite 🤭, so it’s better for groups. And the packaging for the take-away container is unique & also adds to the cost. Overall it was a great experience & I’ll be revisiting again.
