My experience at Village Chief Restaurant was nothing short of amazing! From the moment I stepped in, the welcoming vibe and traditional decor made me feel right at home. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy authentic local cuisine, and they truly deliver on taste and quality.
I had their tasty local soups with fufu, and every bite was a burst of flavor—rich, well-prepared, and clearly made with love. The highlight for me was their palm wine—it was fresh, smooth, and the perfect complement to the meal. And the best part? The prices are so affordable, making it an ideal spot for date nights or even casual outings without stretching your wallet.
If you’re looking for a place to enjoy incredible local dishes in a cozy, relaxed atmosphere, Village Chief Restaurant is the place to be. I’ll definitely be going back for more!
I went for an abacha date with my girlfriend—nice vibes, lively atmosphere, and good music. However, the service was a bit slow. We stood for a while before finding someone to help us get a seat, and then waited a long time before anyone came to take our order. It also took a while to settle the bill. I also wish there was more kanda meat in my abacha; I barely found one tiny piece. Aside from that, I had a great time.
Overall, awesome place, best Arabian tea and barbecue fish (Ibro fish section). They however either need more staff or need to better train the staff to learn to look out for customers needing help or attention. It is such an uphill task getting a staff to take your order or to bring the bill...they don't even look in your direction, so you can't even beckon on them. You end up either screaming like a tout or walking up to find them to be attended to. Also, parking is still such a chore
Village Chief can be quite the busy spot, with an overwhelmed kitchen that sometimes struggles to keep up with the flood of orders.
Their superpower, however, lies in the consistency of their taste. I've tried a few dishes, and I absolutely love their native rice. Their Afang soup and Fisherman soup are personal favorites, and their peppered goat meat always keeps your mouth happily occupied.
That said, the peppered snail has been a bit of a letdown for me. It feels bitter and rubbery, I’ve ordered it twice now and don’t plan on giving it a third shot until I taste someone else’s and find it crunchy.
